Devil replied: "Man, that brings back memories. This link should tell you all about Aaron Stack's career: "

If this were merely a material universe and man only a machine? would such a man be wholly unable to recognize himself as such a machine? And likewise, would such a machine-man be wholly unconscious of the fact of the existence of such a material universe?

kent_shakespear replied: "Maybe. We have no way to know. Or to put it another way: what if there were no hypothetical situations? same answer."

bdayt replied: "this is the universe, and we are biological machines.....and it seems to me like most of the humans on this planet are braindead zombies who support the god in any way they can, mostly through money means, because yeah...god loves cash..... but some of us are conscious of whats really going on, so it's 50/50. depends who knows what at what time really"

Ironpump replied: "Machines are made by science. Thank a scientist for any piece of "machine" you have."

m_trayers replied: "ignorance is bliss"

Seven Costanza replied: "sounds like bladerunner"

Mike Z replied: "very deep question. I think maybe we are in a machine. This question trips me up badly."

the Neutral Christ replied: "We have not yet gotten close to created consciousness in any of our artificial creations. We may not know until we fail or succeed at that."

JoJo replied: "OH GOD!!!MY BRAIN HURTS!!!!MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY!!!! Ahhh that's better. No man would still be able to recognize himself as a machine and he would still be able to create theorems about the universe. However ( and this is just my opinion ) there is no way for materialism to explain awareness without admitting either spirit( all matter is aware) or soul ( just select few lucky constructs of complex matter get to be aware.) . Having said that I will now say that I am not defending the idea that there is a divine being.I am simply saying that the idea of a meat computer doesn't allow for awareness. It allows for everything the body does- poetry, worship, sex, raise kids, keep a job etc. but does not allow for awareness only the simulation of it ( i.e. the external impression of consciousness)."

Suzanne L replied: "When we are unconscious we allow ourselves to be programmed by the material universe. When we awaken, we have to go through the deprogramming, which is painful at times. How do you deal with the idea that everything you believed, everything you thought was important was nothing but an illusion? So, on the contrary, the unconscious programmed "machine-man" is aware of nothing but the material universe, which in fact is not reality."

squirt AM VA replied: "Keep going. You're getting there."

Orpheus Rising replied: "If... If... If... The only story I've been told is my own, and thankfully, my universe is much bigger and grander than the merely material part of it :-) Peace to you."

Clam replied: "Squalor and strife depend upon the organic nature of the individual under God! Fallen triangles square off with circles and hexagons, they battle and charm the peaceful warriors inside each one of us! Man with all of his peculiar indecencies, have no purpose functioning on an earthly level! I am the walrus, said a popular human male being, wtf does that mean anyways? Poop Poop Pe Do!!!!"

sandra b replied: "The mind is a beautiful thing to waste! Danger Will Robinson! Why do the galactic robots of this earth interact with the brilliant minds of the century? Shallow minds gather no thoughts! And mosts mens minds are truley shallow and igniore the fact that they are indeed truley materialistic men. Hence, we come to the end of the rainbow of the colors of our lives as mere humans!"

Phoenix replied: "What a splendid person you are! Yes to both questions. Now, cm'ere and give us a hug! XX"

Herodotus replied: "It appears most like yes to your first question, and no to your second. If want to further denigrate the materialist perspective, maybe you start using the term meat instead of machine. Of course both terms fall to describe the human experience."

Matt replied: "If this was just a material mechanical universe, mechanical man would perform his function of existance with the same degree of consciousness as that of the animals. Proof that the universe is more than merely mechanical is in the consciousness of man."

Comic book info [ROM, Machine Man, Teen Titans]? I'm cutting up some old comic books I found for an art project. Seeing as I have no clue what kind of comic books are actually valuable/important, I just wanted to make sure mine were pretty worthless before taking the scissors to them. They are: ROM issue 75 (I think it's the last), around 1986 Machine Man issue 4 (says its a limited series?) 1984 New Teen Titans issue 46 1988 Any info is helpful. Thanks!

Dick Grayson replied: "Don't worry about those, you're good. Generally comics from the 80s aren't rare/valuable yet. Even first appearances and such."

judy replied: "You should call the right man, SPIDERMAN"

I LOVE MARCO!!! replied: "you're confusing"

Felix replied: "needed a bath"

sunshine replied: "maybe he had a date and needed a bath"

wildlivesinmygarden replied: "The aliens were chasing him through the house again. They zapped him with their ray gun and he got magnified 500 times. Please put some shrink drops on him and put him out in my garden. Thanks"

m☺☺nie l☺☺nie replied: "bunch of em were playing hide and seek and he got lost and found your washer lol"

Mark Twain said man was a machine-man, was he just a ridiculous man or is there some truth to this? "Chapter I - a. Man the Machine. b. Personal Merit" [The Old Man and the Young Man had been conversing. The Old Man had asserted that the human being is merely a machine, and nothing more. The Young Man objected, and asked him to go into particulars and furnish his reasons for his position.]... Read the dialog here: This is a direct quote from it, of one of the Old Mans answers: "O.M. Yes. Man the machine--man the impersonal engine. Whatsoever a man is, is due to his MAKE, and to the INFLUENCES brought to bear upon it by his heredities, his habitat, his associations. He is moved, directed, COMMANDED, by EXTERIOR influences--SOLELY. He ORIGINATES nothing, not even a thought."

Darren replied: "man is a machine... we need fuel ect lol. "

All hat replied: "I don't know that quote or the context but he was a brilliant guy."

*RED* replied: "...what person doesn't own a car, rides a bus, train, boat or space shuttle... ...then again he probably asked HG Wells or Jules Verne's for a quick quote..."

Peter S replied: "What does it mean to be a machine? It means to work on mechanistic principles. Your muscles work on mechanistic principles, your bones work on mechanistic principles, the interactions of your blood, heart, veins, lungs, oxygen molecules all work on mechanistic principles. Everything down to and including your own brain works on mechanistic principles. You are great example of a machine."

WillRogerswannabe replied: "Ah! Mr. Twain..... The being that appeared with halles comet and the being that vanished with halles comet. Very interesting! ~~~~~ The physical body is indeed a marvelous machine constructed of the various elements, earth, fire, air, and water. Such a marvel! Such a masterpiece! Such a mystery! Constructed by The Creative Genius! ~~~~~ Which leads a simple fool such as I, to wonder where one might locate such a Creative Genius? A simple fool such as I would enjoy meeting such a Creative Genius! What it must be like to simply say "Cun" (Arise! Be!), and everything is. It's all such a marvelous mystery, is it not so? A fool such as I would for sure enjoy knowing just how many are truly trying to solve this marvelous ancient mystery? Shanti (Peace),"

affect_ive1 replied: "The OM and the YM featured in this dialogue are at odds with the individualism that flows through each of them when deciphering their unique contribution to the 'human experiment'. The fact is we are both--a machine operating on basic simple hard-wiring plus a unique personality to boot ! The human condition is what it is : a condition neither bad or good to start but neutral and able to absorb all it wants to or repel all it wants to as much of things that affect us, do by our own choice; therefore making wo-man as both a machine and an independent. sharing the light, Miss Erica Hidvegi"

What is the difference between robot and machine man? Logical question answer must be in one sentance only

Winston Smith replied: "The vocabulary of the speaker."

bricktopsglasses replied: "ummm the fact that ROBOT has got and R 2 O's a B and a T in it and machine man doesn't?"

anthony c replied: "A robot would be strictly metal, and a machine man would have at least some organic parts (heart, liver, any organs)."

my dog ate the welding machine - men, help? my fiance and i have been together well over a year, madly in love, planning on the rest of our lives... however, after being laid off from the same workplace, we have both been unemployed for quite some time.. so, needless to say, $$ is tight, as it is for most.. well, tonight, while over at his house, watching a movie with his parents and kids, we put both my 7 month old puppy and his 2 year old german shepherd in the garage, as we usually do when it gets dark and im not ready to go home (his mother is afraid of dogs, thats why they cant be upstairs with us...) anyway, while we had packed the garage up pretty well and secured most anything my puppy could get into, she still managed to jump up on the workbench and chew up what i think is the torch to his welding machine, which is his absolute pride and joy... anyway, he didnt seem too angry, but when he walked me to my car, we were kinda in a hurry as his kids were getting tired and he needed to put them to bed, so i apologized profusely and he said, "dont worry, it wasnt your fault." but i know that he is prolly still upset... i dont think that the part will cost too much to replace, but then again, i am not sure of the part, so it may be a couple hundred dollars or more.. i guess my question is, men, if you were in his shoes, how pissed would you be? would you hold a grudge or feel angry towards me, or just the dog? what can i do to make up for this? and tomorrow is my bday, so i know he wont be upset or show that he's upset tomorrow, but i dont want to find out he's hiding it either and not be able to fix it somehow... what do i do?

James Bong replied: "Bonger to the rescue"

leslie k replied: "The last time I checked, love has no dollar sign. If you love each other, that cannot be replaced. Something like the torch may cost money but it can be replaced, you can't. My ex used to say see what I bought you, it shows I love you. I learned I could live without many things, but I cannot live without love. I could live without diamonds or a mansion, but I cannot live without my new husband."

wildwillyinva replied: "I am sure that he is not happy with the fact that the puppy ate his welder. I would bet that he would not be upset with you as much as he is with the dog. Don't worry about it. I am sure that his shepard ate some things in his day as well."

heybabe replied: "You're going out with a great guy, right? He doesn't care one bit. The dog is a puppy, it's going to do stuff like that. I guarantee if you say to him tomorrow 'sorry about last night' he won't have a clue what your talking about. He'll think your talking about leaving quickly, or something else that happened. Please.... Enjoy your birthday without anxiety. BTW... Happy Birthday!"

David V replied: "Just a man point of view, I don't think you have to worry about it that much as I have seen many things happen like that in my life. And I always looked at the situation and see there's nothing or anything to really blame for what might have happened. So if you feel like your want to replace what was ruined doing it because you want to not because you think he may be mad at the pup or you. Me I would be mad at neither. But at this time your short on money so don`t go spending money you don`t have to spent. I believe he`d understand. Take Care."

Man's peak stage of marriage...? According to the sources of information, I found one interesting and considerable fact "If a man doesnt marriage after an age of 25 then then then then then then.. you cant give a guarantee what else he starts to do weird, queer stuff... Nature is the creater of this complex machine(man) NOT YOU... and nature is naturally distributed. You never be able to predict what will be the next random number... I hope most people shall agree with this. The same rule applys on women but so earlier than 25. OHHH mommmmmmmmmmmmmm i am crossed!!! why dont you listen to me..."

koolkeiff2 replied: "I think you need to expand your list of "sources"."

lil replied: "that's a nice story about yourself and your wife!"

Indigo replied: "What?? Lost me..."

jim replied: "what the hell is wrong with you?"

mia t replied: "yes you are crossed, why marry when you have to share and buy 2 of ever thing. you don't want the other half using your tooth brush that would be gross."

mushtaq_ahmad43 replied: "Imran you have asked this question without any supporting data. Marriageable age is different in diffeent countries. In India and Pakistan, marriageable age for man is from 20 to 30 years. There is no hard and fast rule to determine the age limit of marriage. If you think that 25 years of age is the final age, you are mistaken. However, for femel marrige age is also around 18 years to 28 years. I hope you will agree with me."

Fairy Tale replied: "What is your question ???? And where did you get your facts ! Men really shouldn't get married or women before 25 years old . Early marriages have more down falls because they haven't grown up or had the experiences life offers ( better when single ) until your older and want to share .When I'm 55 or 60 I'll try that marriage thing for companionship and ..... well for companionship ."

The Boot replied: "The HONEYMOON...YEAAAGHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

Christina E replied: "huh?"

Mariah replied: "Even though you come off sounding completely wacked, I do agree that once men get past a certain age and don't live with any women they become rather gross and untouchable. Uh now if you live with your mom but she does everything but still bathe you, same rule applies. Rather gross, what woman would have that? And I guess the opposite supposition could be true that a woman after a certain age decides that she can make it on her own and doesn't need a man bossing her around or ruining her happiness with perverse and twisted expectations while he's probably cheating anyway. Well damn thank God for all these teenagers getting knocked up or else no one would be procreating anymore!"

QUEEN OF QAAF replied: "Dear if you wanna get married, tell your family members....... how can you determine the age to get married on your own. Being a girl I never wanted to get married untill i turned 26 then i got married when i thought its ok now to be bonded in a relationship as good as marriage, I am very happy now."

bubbacrackin replied: "How can you put an age limit on possibly the holiest and most honored of all the sacraments (all legalities aside)? Legality is and should be the only limit as to what age you should be able to marry at. Marriage isn't strictly for companionship. You marry someone because you love them so much that you want to spend the rest of your (or their) life with them. I find it hard to say that I'm not going to marry ever. You never know if you'll find a person who really brings out a part of you that even you never knew you had. Let's stop bringing up goofy conversations and save these question opportunities for more useful and sensible questions, shall we? My mom married my dad at 18 and my sister married my bro-in-law at 18 as well, and they've both raised fine families in my opinion so far. So you can't put an age on that kind of thing because the outcomes of a marriage at any age are unpredictable. Maturity isn't even a valid argument because everybody matures at different ages. I have a friend who is 18 and still acts like he is about 10. He just hasn't matured yet. And as far as gay marriage, I'm no hardcore christian, but I find that disgusting. Man is meant to procreate, it says in the Bible, and yet we use a holy procedure to promote something unholy. Sickening. Really. And I'm tolerant of gays, for the record."

Handsome dude replied: "I disagree dude. I am 31years old and I plan to get marry within the next year or so and have a family. I don't think we should really place boundaries on age as far as marriage is concern"

answer faerie replied: "that's completely nonsensical and arbitrary. people should marry only when and only if they meet the right person, at whatever age that occurs."
